X-WR-CALDESC:The District 9 FFA Mechanics contest will be held on February 
 27\, 2024\, at ABC in Westlake.  All contests will start at 9:00\, Louisia
 na FFA Mechanics rules and questions will be used in these events.  As alw
 ays ABC will provide lunch and refreshments for participating FFA contesta
 nts.  Attached is the hold harmless form which must be signed and turned i
 n at each contest site before the start of each event.  I ask that each sc
 hool in the district e-mail or call me back with how many teams they plan 
 on bringing to help prepare for these events\, information is listed below

 A)           Team members will be responsible for providing proper safety 
 equipment\, dress\, and welding gear. (Chipping hammer\, gloves\, cutting 
 goggles\, welding shield\, approved grinding/chipping eye and face protect
 ive device\, tip cleaner\, striker\, ear plugs\, shirt tails tucked in whi
 le grinding\, approved welding cap\, jackets zipped/buttoned\, tongs\, lea
 ther shoes [ no tennis shoes]\, soap stone\, measuring tape and square\, e
 tc.).  No holes or frays in clothing.  ABC will provide electrodes (6010 5
 p+ and 3/32 7018). Each school must provide their metal.(2 plates per team
 ) 3/8” x 6' x 8' plate with a 33-degree bevel on both 6' sides and 4 ½” di
 sc and wire brush grinders.  Grinders must have safety shields\, handles\,
  and no cuts\, cracks\, or tape on cords.  All welding jobs must be done a
 t the student’s waist height.  Each contestant must bring their own clear 
 grinding face shield\, cutting shields will be provided by ABC. \n\n \n\n 
      B)     No welding will take place prior to welding contest\, machine 
 are to be\n\n              adjusted during contest welding time.\n\n \n\n 
      C.     Contestants cannot use Auto-darken hoods while using grinders.
   Only clear\n\n               Face shields are to be used while grinding 
 and wire brushing.  \n\n \n\n     D.  No Pancake Welding Helmets will be a
 llowed.\n\n     \n\nSmall Engines\n\nAll troubleshoot engines must be brou
 ght to Moss Bluff Mowers by February 21\, 2024  (337-855- 2983 ).  Each pa
 rticipant must have a stopwatch\, safety glasses\, and his or her own tool
 s.  Current rules and updated questions will be applied to this event. Upd
 ated questions for the small engines contest are found on the State FFA we
 bpage.\n\n\n\nElectricity\n\nCurrent rules and updated questions will be a
 pplied to this event except for rule #18 on page 4. Updated questions for 
 the electricity contest are found on the State FFA homepage.  Each partici
 pant must have his or her own safety equipment and tools.
